How the concept of beauty has changed over time

Share

Beauty standards have always accompanied changes and trends in society. The general opinion that something is beautiful today probably won't be the same in 10 or 20 years' time. Nowadays, however, the beauty and cosmetics industry is trying to break away from standards that are considered ideal and show that every beauty is unique and should be appreciated. If you're interested in this topic, this article is for you.

A journey through the history of the “ideal body”

Ancient Egypt was a time when a youthful appearance was highly valued. In Ancient Greece, it was believed that a beautiful woman should have symmetrical proportions and pale skin. By contrast, in the Renaissance, the epitome of beauty was blonde hair, rosy cheeks, a rounded belly and a wide waist.

Even though the thin body had been a trend since the 1920s, the obsession with thinness and a large wave of anorexia cases in the 1960s reinforced the stereotype that only a white, skeletal body was beautiful and the need for all other bodies to fit this standard.

With the emergence of social networks and editing apps, the 2000s were marked by the unattainable beauty standard of a slim figure with voluminous breasts and buttocks. Nowadays, although this feeling of comparison is still there, it's also opening up ways to appreciate one's own beauty and distinctive features.

Breaking standards and celebrating differences

We have reached a stage where the standards of beauty imposed by society and the media are beginning to be deconstructed. The Western, white, young and thin ideal of beauty is giving way to inclusion and the characteristics that make each person's beauty distinct and special.

Instead of all of us looking towards a canon of beauty, there is a rise in the exaltation of the unique traits and history that each person carries with them. The fashion industry has already begun to reinvent itself in this direction, giving visibility to models with gray hair, wrinkles, various weights, sizes, health conditions, races, ethnicities and other aspects linked to diversity and inclusion.

Another point that marks current trends in the world of beauty is making health a priority, to the detriment of external appearance. In 2024, a beautiful body is a healthy and cared-for body, regardless of age. Following a rich, balanced diet and exercising for a healthy mind and body are the way to achieve authentic beauty.

Moisturized, healthy skin is essential for showing off the beauty within. Liquid-Land is the ideal solution for those looking for a skincare routine in tune with respect for nature and sustainability. With a pure formula suitable for all skin types, our pine seed oil promotes softer, firmer, more elastic skin that is protected from sun damage.
